RC OPTICAL 14.5” GALLERY

RC Optical telescopes are staples of both research and astrophotography.  At Deep Sky West Remote Observatory (DSW) we operate an RCOS 14.5″ Carbon Truss system as part of a fully automated astrophotography system.  The RCOS is mated with a Paramount ME, SBIG STX-16803 and SBIG AO-X adaptive optics.  The system is highly productive and is well placed under our >21.5 mag skies with seeing that is often 1″ or lower.

Below are a few examples of the excellent results achieved with the RCOS including an APOD by our member Steve Cooper who combined RCOS data with data collected with his home system.  Special thanks to Steve Cooper and Paddy Gilliland for contributing their images and superior processing skills.  The images were captured remotely via the Internet at Deep Sky West Remote Observatory.  DSW’s combination of darkness, astronomical seeing, and transparency ensures this equipment is at its highest and best use:
